IRAN in Brief

Iran is an eternal reality spanning along a timeline beginning from the earliest moments of man's life on Earth and in a place, as beautiful as the colorful Persian carpet that links the heart of Asia to the Western wing of this vast continent.

The Iranian civilization was founded 6000 years ago in the southwestern part of the Iran of today. The most famous dynasties of the Persian Empire were the Achaemenians, the Parthians and the Sassanids. Some of them ruled in a great part of the Asiancontinent for over 450 years. Since then there have been over 20 ruling dynasties in Iran.

The Islamic Republic of Iran (Jomhuri-ye Eslami-ye Iran) covers 1,648,000 square kilometers in southwestern Asia. The capital of Iran is Tehran (Teheran).

Iran's official language, Farsi (Persian), is Indo-European.

The Currency in Iran is Rial. You can exchange your hard currency with Rials at your hotel or banks. Credit cards are not accepted in Iran.

All foreign visitors to Iran should have passport valid for at least 6 months. Visa is required for all foreign nationalities except for nationals of Turkey. An invitation letter will be sent upon your request to facilitate obtaining entry visa. Please contact Iran Embassies in your country well in advance, because issuing entry visa may take some time.

TEHRAN in Brief

General Information and Historical Background

Tehran's altitude is between 1,200 and 1,700 meters. Nearly 12 million people live in Tehran.  Tehran is pleasant, it derives its originality from its dry climate, always cool in the evening, pure sky, the nearness of the mountains, numerous parks and gardens where flowers blossom throughout the year, the alleys of young plane-trees in the avenues or even smaller streets, the water which runs down from the upper city along deep and wide gutters which look like small rivers during spring.

Climate of Tehran
The mean temperature is 18-23 C in April. Spring breezes may blow. Occasional rain is also expected.
